Manslaughter Convict Nabbed After 21 Years

Sankhuwasabha, July 21

Manslaughter Convict Nabbed After 21 Years, After evading justice for over two decades, a man convicted in a manslaughter case has finally been arrested in Sankhuwasabha district. The individual, identified as 62 year old Durga Bahadur Tamang, a resident of Chainpur Municipality-9, was taken into custody by the Sankhuwasabha Area Police Office from the Chainpur Khamling area on Saturday.

Tamang had been on the run since his involvement in the killing of 36 year old Parshuram BK, a resident of Jarayotar-4 in Bhojpur district. The incident occurred on 22 Chaitra 2061 BS (April 4, 2005), during a dispute that escalated fatally.

Following a lengthy legal process, the then Appellate Court (now High Court) of Dhankuta handed Tamang a two year prison sentence on 17 Ashad 2069 BS (July 1, 2012) for his role in the incident. However, he absconded before serving his sentence and remained a fugitive for 13 years after the court verdict and 21 years after the crime itself.

According to Inspector Ram Kumar Lamichhane, spokesperson for the Sankhuwasabha District Police Office, Tamang had been living discreetly in different areas of Chainpur, using false identities and avoiding known locations to evade arrest. His capture was the result of continued surveillance and intelligence gathering efforts under the district police long term operation to bring fugitives to justice.

Following his arrest, Tamang has been transferred to Sankhuwasabha District Prison to serve out the remainder of his court mandated sentence.

This arrest underscores the Nepal Police commitment to ensuring that no individual, regardless of the passage of time, escapes justice. Authorities continue to track down other absconding convicts across the country through digital records and community tip-offs.
