KATHMANDU, JULY 1

In a significant crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, Four Arrested with Over 1074 Kg of Marijuna in Makawanpur by the police in Katahare, situated in Ward No. 5 of Kailash Rural Municipality, Makawanpur district.

The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Haribahadur Waiba, aged 78, Buddhibahadur Pakhrin, 48, Arun Gole, 34, and Rajendra Lama, 19. All of them are residents of the same local region, and are believed to have been involved in storing and possibly distributing the marijuna.

The arrest followed a confidential tip-off received by the police, indicating that a large stockpile of marijuna was being kept in one of the houses and its adjoining compound in the area. Acting promptly on this intelligence, a joint operation team consisting of personnel from the Narcotics Control Bureau, Koteshwor, the Palung Area Police Office, and the local police unit carried out a raid early Monday morning, around 8:00 AM.

During the search, law enforcement officials inspected multiple residences belonging to the suspects, including the homes of Haribahadur Waiba, Buddhibahadur Pakhrin, Arun Gole, and Rajendra Lama. The operation also extended to the residences of Gokarna Paudel, Manbahadur Moktan, and Somlal Gole, who are under further investigation, although no arrests have been made in their cases at this time.

Upon searching the properties, officers discovered 54 sacks filled with marijuna. According to officials, the volume of marijuna found is one of the largest seized in the district in recent months, highlighting the growing concern over rural areas being used as storage and transit points for illegal narcotics.

Police stated that the arrested individuals were immediately taken into custody and have now been handed over to the Area Police Office in Palung for further investigation and legal proceedings. Authorities confirmed that all four will be prosecuted under the Narcotic Drugs Control Act, 2033 (1976), which carries strict penalties for the production, sale, and distribution of banned substances, including marijuna.

A senior officer involved in the operation said, “This was a well coordinated effort, and we believe this is part of a larger network. Investigations are underway to trace the source and the intended destination of the seized marijuna.”

The Narcotics Control Bureau has intensified surveillance and monitoring in both urban and rural areas to tackle the spread of drug trafficking. With increasing reports of drug use and illegal trade, police authorities have urged the public to come forward with any information regarding such activities.
