Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak Conducts Inspection at NPDM Office

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak Conducts Inspection at NPDM Office and Nepal Police Headquarters located in Samakhushi on Wednesday. During his visit, he reviewed the preparedness and resources available for disaster management and provided important directives to the police officials present.

As part of the inspection, the Home Minister observed a simulated disaster response drill, which showcased how the Nepal Police would respond in the event of a natural or man made disaster. He also reviewed the storage and availability of disaster rescue equipment, and interacted with members of the Police Disaster Response Team and the Specialized Rescue Team. Minister Lekhak showed keen interest in the training modules, team coordination, and operational readiness of these units.

During the formal program held after the inspection, Home Minister Lekhak addressed the attendees and emphasized the critical importance of disaster preparedness in a geographically vulnerable country like Nepal. He noted that due to the country mountainous terrain and seismic sensitivity, the risk of disasters whether floods, landslides, or earthquakes is ever present. In such a scenario, he stressed that the Nepal Police must always remain vigilant and ready for rapid deployment.

Highlighting the role of the police in maintaining public safety, peace, and social order, Minister Lekhak also underscored the equally vital responsibility they bear in disaster management. He urged the police to act with urgency and efficiency in rescue missions, ensuring that citizens receive immediate assistance during times of crisis. “The public must not feel neglected during disasters. Our goal should be to prevent grievances by responding quickly and effectively,” he said.

Acting Home Secretary Jayanarayan Acharya, who was also present at the event, praised the efforts of the Nepal Police in leading frontline rescue operations during various disasters. He stated that the Nepal Police has proven its dedication and resilience time and again and encouraged continued collaboration with local governments and other concerned agencies. Secretary Acharya stressed the importance of building public trust through transparency, coordination, and quick response during emergencies.

Inspector General of Police IGP Deepak Thapa expressed his appreciation for the visit and directives from the Home Minister. IGP Thapa reiterated that the Nepal Police are fully prepared to mobilize at all levels, in coordination with other security forces, to respond effectively to disaster situations. He emphasized the use of all available manpower and technological resources to enhance professionalism and speed in rescue operations.

He instructed the units under the Disaster Management Office to operate with maximum efficiency and maintain a state of readiness at all times. “Every rescue mission is a test of our discipline and training. We must show professionalism and courage while reaching out to citizens in distress,” IGP Thapa said.

During the program, Senior Superintendent of Police SSP Taradevi Thapa, who heads the Nepal Police Disaster Management Office in Samakhushi, extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries. She delivered a detailed presentation outlining the preparedness measures being taken in view of the upcoming monsoon season. Her briefing included information on the current stock of rescue materials, training of personnel, coordination with local disaster management committees, and standard operating procedures during natural calamities.

The event was attended by senior police leadership including Additional Inspector General of Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police, officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, and other high ranking officers. Field level police personnel and soldiers also participated in the inspection and the subsequent program.
