Lalitpur Launches Anti Drug Drive 2082 On International Day, In observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, a special event was organized in Sanepa, Lalitpur, to officially launch the “Drug-Free Homes Campaign 2082”. The campaign was inaugurated in the presence of Chief Guest Chiribabu Maharjan, Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, and Inspector General of Police Deepak Thapa, symbolizing a strong multi agency commitment to combatting drug abuse at the community level.

The initiative is a joint effort involving the District Administration Office, Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Lalitpur District Police Office, and the Community Service Center, Sanepa. The campaign aims to create awareness, promote prevention, and foster community cooperation to eliminate drug abuse from households across the district.

During the ceremony, Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan praised the efforts of the Nepal Police in maintaining public safety and tackling drug related issues. He emphasized the need for unified action, promising full support and coordination from the municipal government to ensure the success of the campaign.

Inspector General Thapa reinforced the Nepal Police unwavering commitment to eradicating drug abuse and crime, stating that law enforcement will intensify its efforts not only through legal means but also via community outreach and education. He urged all officers to adopt a firm and proactive stance in this national mission.

On International Day of Anti Drug Drive 2082

Additional Inspector General of Police Tek Bahadur Tamang, Deputy Mayor Manjali Shakya, Ward Presidents Rajesh Kumar Maharjan and Surendra Khadka, and Community Service Center Secretary Surendra Khadka also addressed the gathering, underlining the significance of community partnerships in sustaining a drug free environment.

As part of the celebration, winners of various competitions organized to raise awareness about drug abuse were honored. Awards were distributed for the Inter school Futsal Tournament, Essay Competition, and Painting Contest. Distinguished personalities including Retired AIGP Govind Thapa and Chief Administrative Officer Rekha Das Shrestha handed out prizes to the young participants.

The event featured a powerful drama performance by the Nepal Police Music School, focused on the dangers of drug addiction and the importance of community police collaboration. A thematic dance performance also highlighted the spirit of the campaign and the role of youth in building a resilient society.

Chief Superintendent of Police Shyamkrishna Adhikari and Chief District Officer Ramesh Dhakal delivered opening and closing remarks, respectively, expressing gratitude to all participants and reaffirming the government dedication to social well being.

The function saw participation from a wide range of stakeholders, including Deputy Inspectors General of Police, senior police officials, municipal officers, local leaders, representatives from NGOs and community organizations, school administrators, teachers, and students from across Lalitpur.

The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed every year on June 26, is a United Nations recognized day aimed at strengthening global action and cooperation to achieve a world free of drug abuse. This year theme, “The evidence is clear: invest in prevention,” resonates strongly with the objectives of the Drug Free Homes Campaign 2082.

By fostering education, community vigilance, and robust law enforcement, Lalitpur initiative stands as a model for other municipalities to follow in the fight against narcotics and substance abuse.
