Step 1: Access NID portal and Login

Step 2: Start a New Application

Click on “New Enrollment” to begin your application.

  • Enter details about your Mother

  • Enter details about your Grandfather

  • Enter details about your Grandmother

  • Enter details about your Spouse.

Step 3: Book Your Appointment for Biometric Registration


Once all personal and family details are completed, you’ll need to choose a location and date for your biometric data collection. In most cases, the system will automatically suggest the earliest available date after selecting a nearby location.

If no nearby centers are listed, select the “Others” option and click “Submit.” Then, take your completed application and necessary documents to your local District Administration Office or Area Administration Office to schedule your appointment in person.

Step 4: Attend Your Biometric Appointment

On the scheduled date, visit the designated office for your biometric registration. Be sure to bring all necessary documents with you. It’s also important to present yourself with your natural hair color, as this is part of the official guidelines for the ID photo and biometric process.

  1. Original Nepali Citizenship Certificate
  2. Photocopy of either the father or mother citizenship certificate (if available)
  3. If the date of birth is not listed on the citizenship certificate, provide a recommendation letter from the relevant ward office or any other document confirming the birth date.
  4. Photocopy of your passport (if applicable)
  5. Migration Certificate (if applicable)
  6. Marriage Certificate (if applicable)

Once you have completed the application process for your National Identity Card Nepal NID“, you will receive a printed acknowledgment slip containing your personal details. At the top of this paper, you will find a 16-digit application number, this is essential for retrieving your National Identity NumberNIN“.

To get your NIN, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open your phone messaging app.
  2. Type the following message:
    N (in capital letter) followed by a space and then your 16-digit application number.
    For example: N 9876543219876543
  1. Send the message to 30001.

Shortly after sending the SMS, you will receive a reply from DONIDCR (Department of National ID and Civil Registration) containing your official National Identity Number “NIN”.
